Understanding Niches
If you have been online for a while, there is no doubt you have heard the saying "The key to a profitable website is the right niche." While this is absolutely the case, this can be confusing for someone who is just starting out in the online internet money making world.
First and foremost, you must understand exactly what it means to have a "niche, and what the word means to the online community. A niche is basically an idea or topic that a webmaster (you) has built their website around. For example, if you have a website that sells televisions, your niche would essentially be televisions. Now here’s the tricky part…a niche in televisions is actually not your niche. To find your niche, you need to dig deeper into the "target" word (in this case, televisions) and really find out what audience you wish to target.
A better niche would be -buy televisions, an even better one -buy 42" televisions online, but the best one would be- buy 42" lcd t.v’s online. If you notice, every targeted phrase got a little more detailed in what I was offering my customers. The same hold true if you have a website about horses. The trick is to narrow down your top catagory you want to focus on until you find a subcatagory that fits your topic, and build a site around the more detailed phrases.
Finding the right niche is essential to your success online, and it’s very easy to do once you understand and practice the concept. The first few times you try to find a niche may be a little more work and little more confussing to you, but once you get it, you’ll be finding profitable niches all over the place.
